KIEV, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine has become a full member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which allows Ukraine to enter the global market of renewable energy, local authorities said Monday.

"This undoubtedly means an improvement of the investment image of the state, wide opportunities for attracting the best world practices and technologies, and most importantly -- green investments," Sergiy Savchuk, head of Ukraine's State Agency for Energy Efficiency, said on Facebook.

The participation in IRENA would also enable Ukraine to upgrade its legislation in the sphere of clean energy, Savchuk added.

The Ukrainian government set a target to increase the share of the renewables in the energy mix to 25 percent by 2035 from the current 4 percent.

The Abu Dhabi-based IRENA is the global hub for renewable energy cooperation and information exchange, which unites 155 members.
