SAO PAULO, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Brazil registered an unemployment rate of 6.6 percent in 2024, the lowest since 2012, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said on Friday.
According to the Continuous National Household Sample Survey, the South American country also broke a record in terms of employed people, averaging 103 million last year, up 2.6 percent year on year.
The statistics include registered and unregistered employees both in the public and private sectors, as well as those who are self-employed, said the IBGE.
Employees with a formal contract totaled 38.7 million in 2024, up 2.7 percent year on year, the institution added. ■
