KAMPALA, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) has announced that female athletes will be tested for pregnancy before the final entry of lists for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Beatrice Ayikoru, the chef de mission for Uganda's team to the Games told Xinhua on Saturday that they are not going to take any risks. "The UOC medical team will make sure it checks for pregnancy, injuries and doping," added Ayikoru.

She explained that it will be dangerous to take a pregnant athlete for the Games. "We are aware that some athletes will not speak about their medical conditions because they would not want to miss the Games," she explained.

The Games will take place April 4-15 in the Gold Coast City, Australia.

William Blick, President of Uganda Olympic Committee said all athletes should remain focused as they prepare for the Games. He said the code of conduct for athletes and officials was being reviewed to take into account requirements by the Australian government especially the border security.

Besides the rugby sevens team and Netball team that qualified, Uganda will also send athletes in swimming, track and field, table tennis, squash, cycling, shooting, badminton, weightlifting and boxing.
