      CHINA-PRESCHOOL EDUCATION-PUBLIC SPENDING-INCREASE (CN)

Chinese Minister of Education Chen Baosheng on Tuesday promised to increase public spending and support for preschool education. The ministry will set a standard for public spending on state-run kindergartens and subsidies for private kindergartens for each child. And measures will be adopted to guarantee salaries and benefit for preschool teachers and to increase their professional qualifications. File photo taken on Sept. 6, 2017 shows that Pan Chengyue, a 4-year-old girl of Miao ethnic group, takes free lunch at the Kaihuai Community No. 13 Kindergarten, which was newly built for children relocated from poverty-stricken areas, in Kaili City, Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Qiandongnan, southwest China's Guizhou Province. Nutrition program has benefited preschool children in rural area of Kaili since spring this year, with free breakfast and lunch offered to children at rural kindergartens and kindergartens for children relocated from poverty-stricken areas.
