PYEONGCHANG, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The captain of China women's curling team is confident but cautious after their opening win in the PyeongChang Winter Games here on Wednesday.

"This is just our first game here. We will be patient and prepare for later ones," remarked Wang Bingyu.

The Chinese team, led by Vancouver Games bronze medalists Wang and Zhou Yan, built a comfortable 4-1 lead after the fourth end before scoring three points in the eighth to earn their first victory over Switzerland in the round-robin preliminaries.

"It was the first time for these Swiss players to play in the Olympics, and they seemed more nervous than we were and made more mistakes," said Wang after the game.

But she added that the Chinese players also made a few mistakes and were slow to adjust to the field at first.

"I did miss the last shot in the first end, because I was not comfortable with the ice. We had told ourselves to be cautious, but mistakes still happened. I guess we should be be more patient in later games," she said.

Wang added that she is happy that her team really enjoyed the game, especially the younger players.

"My team has two players who took part in the Olympics for the first time. I can see they really enjoyed it here, and I'm happy for them," she said.

Ten teams are competing in the women's curling competitions of the PyeongChang Games, with the top four finishers from the round-robin to qualify for the semifinals.

As captain, Wang is conscious of the gap between the Chinese team and the top teams in the world. "Yes, we came here ranked the ninth (among the 10 teams)," she said.

"We really appreciate the hard-earned chance to play in the Olympics, and we will go all out to play every game as well as we can," she added.
