GAZA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Israeli war jets carried out an airstrike on an empty vehicle in central Gaza Strip early Wednesday, no casualties were reported, according to medical workers and eyewitnesses.

They said an Israeli army drone fired at least one missile at a car belonging to an Islamic Hamas militant at Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, damaging the vehicle.

In response, militants fired at least eight rockets from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, local media reported, adding that Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system intercepted the rockets and no casualties were reported.

There were no immediate comments from the Israeli army.

On Tuesday, Israeli army drones launched four separate airstrikes on Palestinians who were launching flaming kites and balloons into Israel and on a vehicle used for transporting the objects.

Palestinians started on March 30 to launch flaming kites and balloons as part of popular rallies and protests, calling it the great march of return, which, according to Israeli media, has caused severe damage to Israel's agricultural sector.

The Israeli army has been firing missiles at those Palestinians since June 9. However, most of the missiles were just for warning.

Also on Tuesday, the commission for the Palestinian rallies issued a statement calling on the people to join the massive "from Gaza to West Bank, one unified blood and joint fate" rallies planned on Friday.

"The marches of return will go on until it achieves its goals of return, freedom, independence and breaking the siege," read the statement.

Ashraf al-Qedra, the health ministry spokesman in Gaza, has said that since March 30, 132 people have been killed and 14,000 others injured, of whom around half were shot by live ammunition and many are still in critical condition.
