KABUL, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Around 14,000 people have been forced by critical drought from their homes in remote areas to the cities in two Afghan provinces, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Tuesday.

The drought affected people have poured to Kunduz city, capital of northern Kunduz province and Qala-e-Naw city, capital of western Badghis province, as aid agencies usually focus on secure regions of the country to supply assistance to those in need, the agency said in its initial report.

"Humanitarian agencies aided up to 90,000 people, in the past week, with a total of 172,193 have been verified as Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in 2018," the report added.

More than 1.4 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance as a result of drought, according to officials of Afghan Ministry for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs.

Up to 20 of the country's 34 provinces affected and the ministry predicts that around 3 million people will be in need of aid until the end of this year.?
