SHANGHAI, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The jury of the Sixth Shanghai International Ballet Competition has announced vacant position of the Grand Prix worth 50,000 U.S. dollars at the award ceremony.

The competition closed Saturday with the international jury announcing that no contestant had reached the expected standard for the Grand Prix.

Andris Liepa, a Russian judge, expressed his hope to see a Grand Prix laureate at the next Shanghai International Ballet Competition, expected to be held in 2020.

Chinese dancers secured three golds at the competition.

China's Shi Yue and Ao Dingwen won gold in the adult division, while Austrian Prisca Zeisel, and China's Wang Zhanfeng and Chang Sinuo received silver. Chinese dancer Li Siyi received the only gold in the junior division.

Aaron Smyth from Australia was awarded the Special Jury Award for Best Performer and Portuguese dancer Diana Ribeiro Brandao and Chinese dancer Han Zeyuan received the Contemporary Performer Award.

Frank A. Andersen, chairman of the jury, commented that it was a long but good week for the audience and dancers as well as the jury, with fine performances and exciting dancing.

The Shanghai International Ballet Competition was founded in 1995 and welcomes competitors from all over the world.

This year's competition attracted over 1.9 million views on live online broadcasts.
