KABUL, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Afghans celebrated Eid al-Adha, the largest annual religious festival, by attending prayers and visiting relatives throughout the country on Tuesday.

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani took part in Eid prayers together with senior officials and cabinet members in a mosque inside the Presidential Palace early on Tuesday.

President Ghani congratulated the Eid al-Adha to the Afghan people and said in his short speech after offering Eid prayers that the Afghan government is committed to conditional ceasefire with the Taliban outfit, which announced on Sunday.

The annual festival, known as the Festival of Sacrificing animals, is observed in the Islamic world from Tuesday Aug. 21 until Thursday Aug. 23 this year.

"We have experienced enough violence in recent years, I wish the waves of violence and killings will be over in our country at its earliest, and all Afghans will be happy like in Eid holidays to enjoy peace and stabilities," Khalilullah, a Kabul resident said after offering his Eid praying ceremony.

Kabul was attacked with rockets fired by militants on Tuesday morning. President Ghani said that the enemies activities can't stop Afghans from moving towards progress and development.
