    2. Uganda selects 12-man team for 2018 World Chess Olympiad

      KAMPALA, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Uganda has selected a 12-man team to take part in the 43rd World Chess Olympiad scheduled to be held from Sept. 23-Oct. 6 in Batumi, Georgia.

      The event brings together the top players from around all continents and sanctioned by the World Chess body, FIDE.

      "We are happy to be sending a team to represent Uganda at a top tournament for chess. We encourage the players to behave and carry the Ugandan flag high," Bernard Patrick Ogwel, the acting National Council of Sports Secretary General told Xinhua on Friday.

      The team is scheduled to leave for Georgia on Friday night.

      Uganda's leading female player Phiona Mutesi who has played in four Chess Olympiads is also part of the team that comprises seven men and five women.

      Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, India, Belgium, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Egypt, England and Ethiopia among others are the other countries that will field players at the 2018 World Chess Olympiad.

      Uganda's team includes Arthur Ssegwanyi, Patrick Kawuma, Haruna Nsubuga, Walter Okas, Shadrack Kantinti and Jordan Teeba.

      The others are Isaac Otim, Phiona Mutesi, Christine Namaganda, Peninah Nakabo, Cloria Nansubuga and Shakira Ampaire. Enditem
