SUVA, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Fijian voters in the 22 polling venues that had their voting postponed due to bad weather on Wednesday will have their voting on Saturday.

Fiji's Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem told a press conference on Thursday that as a result of discussions with Fiji's Electoral Commission, the decision had been finalized to hold polling for the 22 venues that were affected in the Central, Western and Eastern parts of the island nation due to heavy rain.

Saneem said that ballot papers were being printed for over 7,000 Fijian voters that were affected in their respective areas.

He said Fijian voters who had voted prior to the suspension would now have to revote at the 22 polling venues.

Fiji's Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has stated that with the over 7,000 voters yet to cast their ballots, he has urged members of the public to continue with the positive momentum and support the work of police officers when voting resumes at the 22 polling venues on Saturday.

Counting of votes is still underway, and the final official results of the general elections is expected to be announced after the counting is completed.

This is Fiji's second general elections since a military coup in 2006 and the last polls took place in 2014.

A total of 235 candidates are vying for 51 parliamentary seats in Fiji which has a population of more than 880,000.
