LONDON, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May is "widely expected" to be defeated in the Tuesday parliament vote on the Brexit deal she has advocated, local media reported.

An overwhelming majority of British media forecast that the Members of Parliament (MPs) are going to vote against the deal reached between the British government and the EU after a five-day debate.

The BBC said that many of May's own MPs are expected to join opposition parties to vote against the deal.

MPs will also be able to suggest amendments that could reshape the deal before voting starts at around 1900 GMT.

The crucial voting came amid tension as May called on the MPs to vote for the sake of the nation and Brexiteers said the deal would risk trapping the country in the EU.

Financial Times on Tuesday said May's last-ditch attempt to shore up her Brexit deal appeared to be doomed.

"In Downing Street, there was a mood of impending disaster, with some allies of the premier claiming the vote could be lost by 200 votes or more," it said.

Sky News reported that May is facing a huge defeat and a vote of no confidence from the government.

It said senior MPs are predicting a defeat for the prime minister of between 100 and 200 votes, which is likely to be followed by Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn calling a vote of no confidence from the government.
