NEW DELHI, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The number of swine flu (H1N1) cases in the Indian capital continues to rise rapidly, even as 11 people have died so far and more than 1,000 people are said to have contacted the contagious disease this year alone.

The Delhi state government's data released on Monday said that as many as 1,011 swine flu cases had been reported in the city this year till Sunday.

The data, though, is silent on the number of deaths due to the disease. But as many as three government-run hospitals have confirmed 11 deaths due to swine flu.

The spread of the disease is said to be severe this year even as only 205 cases were reported throughout last year, and two people died.

According to media reports, till Jan. 29 the number of cases were 512, and had almost doubled in the past one week.

The Delhi government has directed all its hospitals to make local purchases of logistics required to ensure a continuous supply of medicine, vaccine and kits, according to the report.
