SAO PAULO, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The government of Brazil's Sao Paulo state announced Tuesday that it will open a trade office in China's Shanghai.

The announcement was made by Sao Paulo Governor Joao Doria, following a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming and other diplomatic officers.

The office aims to promote bilateral trade, investment and cooperation in several fields, including education, innovation and technology.

"Shanghai is China's business capital," Doria said. "We have established today the cooperation agreements that will be signed in August in China in the following areas: agribusiness, technology, infrastructure, logistics and transportation, health, economic development, energy and tourism."

"We will also be presenting Sao Paulo's privatization plans in the areas of railways, highways, airports and ports," added Doria.

Sao Paulo state already has 11 cooperation agreements with China, mostly in investment, agriculture and sports, and the Shanghai office is the state's first trade outpost abroad.

"We already have a strong and trusting relationship with our Chinese partners. We want to strengthen it both economically and institutionally, in many areas," said Sao Paulo's Secretary for Foreign Affairs Julio Serson.

Serson added that their mission is to "explore business opportunities" and "build up the ties" between the two sides.
