NINGBO, China, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese rookie Li Wenwen beat the Olympic champion Meng Suping as she broke the world record in women's +87kg category at the Asian Weightlifting Championships, which was concluded here on Sunday.

Li, silver medalist at Fuzhou World Cup in February, showed her ambition with three successful attempts in the snatch as she setting up a new world record at 147kg in her third lift, one kilo more than the previous record made by Tatiana Kashirina of Russia at the Worlds in 2018.

Veteran Meng started the competition with an ordinary 130kg lift, but she failed to snatch 137kg in the next two lifts.

The 19-year-old Li jerked up 175kg and then was too eager to lift 180kg and 185kg in her last two attempts, but she still won the gold medal with a total of 322kg, nine kilos less than the world record set by Kashirina at the Worlds in 2018.

Meng, women's +75kg category winner at Rio Olympics, hoisted 175kg to finish the competition at 305kg to claim the silver medal, 20 kilos less than her winning result at Fuzhou World Cup in February. Kim Kuk-hyang of DPR Korea took the bronze at 293kg.

China collected 11 gold medals and broke ten world records at the Asian Championships.
