KAMPALA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Ivan Nedelko lifted the men's singles title of the 2019 International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Pro Circuit 1 which ended here on Sunday.

The Russian, who has showed good form throughout the tournament, defeated Simon Carr of Ireland 6-2, 6-4 in the final played at the Lugogo Tennis Club.

"I played against a very good player, But I will try to concentrate more in Circuit 2 which starts on Monday," Carr told Xinhua after the game.

The 33-year old Nedelko ranked 436th in the ATP singles and said he was happy to start with a win in Uganda.

"It is a great start for me since I won three of the titles here last year and lost one," he added.

To reach the final, Nedelko defeated 17-year old Eric Vanshelboim (Ukraine) in the semis, while Carr humbled India's Muthu Aadhitiya Senthilkumar.

Cedric Babu, president of the Uganda Tennis Association, said he was impressed with the level of play.

"I hope our young local players learn a lot from the high ranked players who are here for the next two weeks," Babu added.
