YANGON, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will establish a Women's Entrepreneurship Development Center aimed at helping women take up entrepreneurship and develop the capabilities of women who are confined to their homes, according to the Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs' Association (MWEA).

The development center is designed to improve the lives of women and help those who want to start small and medium enterprises, including helping them secure agricultural loan, said Daw Khin Lay, chairperson of the MWEA, at the association's annual general meeting held in the commercial city of Yangon on Monday.

Formed with more than 2,000 members, the MWEA usually conducts seminars to educate mothers and provide knowledge about the micro-finance sector.

According to MWEA, women from the association, who have achieved success in the economic and social sectors, have received 32 awards conferred by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Meanwhile, the government stressed the role of women in the peace-making process, calling on women of economic sectors to make the best use of their wealth and proficiency in business for the peace of the country.

Of the 54.1 million population in Myanmar as of April 1, 28.152 million or 52 percent are female, according to estimation, based on the 2014 census of population and households.
