      BRATISLAVA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The liberal pro-EU alliance of Progressive Slovakia (PS) and SPOLU had garnered 20.1 percent of votes and four mandates in elections to renew the European Parliament held on Saturday, State Electoral Commission chairman Eduard Barany announced on Sunday.

      According to the official results, the governing party SMED-SD got 15.7 percent of votes and three mandates.

      For the first time, far-right People's Party Our Slovakia (L'SNS) advanced to the European parliament by winning 12.1 percent of the votes and two mandates.

      Christian Democrats was successful as well, garnered 9.7 percent and two mandates. Liberal party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) got 9.6 percent and two mandates as well.

      The last mandate went to the opposition party Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OL'aNO) for 5.3 percent of votes. The other 24 Slovak political parties and movements failed to reach the 5-percent threshold.

      Barany also named 13 Slovak MEP′s for the next five-year term.

      According to Barany, the voter turnout was 22.74 percent. In 2014, only 13 percent of voters went to the polls in Slovakia, which was the lowest figure in the EU.
