WARSAW, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Poland and Sweden were in favour of strengthening the Eastern Partnership -- an EU initiative to "promote economic integration and European values" in the six Eastern European countries, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom and Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said at a joint press conference in Warsaw on Thursday.

The Swedish foreign minister visited Warsaw on Thursday, to mark both a century of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Poland and 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership, following a proposal by Poland and Sweden.

"We have a similar perception of the international context, and especially of the security situation in our region. We share a common vision about the future of the Eastern neighborhood of the EU. We have much in common when it comes to our positions on the expansion of the union," Czaputowicz said during the press conference.

Both countries are also supporting Ukraine's European aspirations, Wallstrom said. On Friday, the two ministers will head to Kiev, to meet with the country's new president Volodymyr Zelensky.

"We will say that we remain the best friends of Ukraine," Wallstrom said in Warsaw, referring to the upcoming visit to Kiev.

"At the same time, we will be insisting on reforms. The fight with corruption is a serious challenge," Wallstrom said about Ukraine.
