WUHAN, China, July 9 (Xinhua) -- New drones designed with autopilot technology will take on power maintenance duties at the 7th Military World Games, said officials from the power supply department of the Games in a conference held on Tuesday here in the host city of Wuhan.

The drones can autonomously complete long-distance patrolling duties along a preset route, and can return without manual guidance after accomplishing their mission.

Another new kind of drone can eliminate the potential danger of power failure by spraying fire onto flying objects that have landed on power lines.

Along with the drones, a number of new pieces of equipment made in China were on display at the conference.

The drones will replace some powerline workers to maintain the power supply to the venues, according to the officials from the State Grid Hubei Provincial Company.

The 7th Military World Games, a multi-sport event organized every four years since 1995, will be held in Wuhan, Hubei province, from Oct. 18-27, 2019.

As of now, all 35 venues have been built or renovated. More than 10,000 military athletes from 105 countries and regions have signed up to participate.
