BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Renji Hospital in Shanghai aired live 5G broadcast of surgery using the Da Vinci Robotics System on Thursday, China Daily reported Friday.

The live 5G broadcast, the latest effort to promote integrated medical development in the Yangtze River Delta region, allowed doctors in the hospital's branch in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, and their peers in the Shanghai hospital to simultaneously observe each step during the 90-minute surgery on an intestinal cancer patient.

The operation was performed by Zhong Ming, deputy director of the hospital's gastrointestinal department, via the Da Vinci Robotics System, an advanced robotic system facilitating complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach that is controlled by a surgeon from a console.

In the effort to extend Shanghai's high-quality medical resource, Renji Hospital's Ningbo branch was put into action in March. The hospital came up with the idea of livestreaming surgeries to enable doctors in Ningbo to observe complex cases and master corresponding techniques.

"Such broadcasts are beneficial for young doctors throughout the region to learn the most advanced technology and further standardize surgical treatment, extending benefits to more patients," Zhang Jidong, vice-president of Renji Hospital, was quoted as saying.
