      BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- More than 6 million people have been affected by Typhoon Lekima after it made landfall Saturday in eastern China's Zhejiang Province.

      As of 5 p.m. Sunday, the super typhoon left 6.51 million people impacted in the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong and Fujian as well as the city of Shanghai, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.

      Authorities have relocated some 1.46 million people, the ministry said.

      Nearly 3,500 houses collapsed and some 35,000 were damaged, while 265,500 hectares of crops were affected by the typhoon.

      A total of 32 people died and 16 remain missing after Lekima, the ninth and strongest typhoon of the year, landed around 1:45 a.m. Saturday in the city of Wenling in eastern China's Zhejiang Province.

      Authorities have mobilized dramatic rescue and relief efforts, with firefighters, soldiers, policemen and government agency staff searching for those missing.

      The Ministry of Emergency Management and the Ministry of Finance have allocated disaster relief fund totaling 30 million yuan (4.28 million U.S. dollars) to Zhejiang Province.
