YANGON, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar traditional lanterns are filling the market in anticipation of the country's Thadingyut Lighting Festival which is falling on next Sunday on Oct. 13.

Lantern makers said they are witnessing a high demand ahead of the festival.

Bamboos and trim are molded into desired shapes and attached color papers to the lanterns shaped into rabbit, elephant, peacock, airplane, car, ship, and other animals.

The festival is traditionally celebrated for three days with the second day as the full moon day which falls on the 15th of the seventh month according to Myanmar calendar year, marking the end of the rainy season.

During the festival, pagodas, temples and monasteries are crowded with pilgrims and people light candles around and illuminate pagoda and homes.

In accordance with their culture and tradition, Myanmar people used to go around paying respects to parents, grandparents, teachers and elderly relatives.

The Thadingyut Lighting Festival is also celebrated with Buddha's Dhamma teachings to drive away the darkness of ignorance and become enlightened in accordance with their beliefs.
